If you’re confused about how many nightstands should be in your bedroom then do not fear. I’ll show you exactly how many you’ll need to make your bedroom look out of this world.
You’ve just moved into a new apartment, it has an amazing view overlooking the water and you’ve nearly finished do the place up to make it your own.
As always, the bedroom is the last place to be finished but you’ve finally reached the endpoint.
You’ve hit a brick wall, metaphorically, but also potentially literally too.
How many nightstands do you need?
It’s an important question.
One that we as a species don’t consider enough in my opinion.
The results can range from 0 nightstands all the way to 2 nightstands.
Even as Wild West as the internet can be at times, I like to think there’s no one out there considering buying a 3rd or 4th nightstand to place at the foot of the bed.
Shudders.
Are you a madman/madwoman?
Please take a moment to examine yourself.
Unless your tastes are towards the more minimalist end of the design spectrum, you’re advised to buy at least one nightstand.
There are a lot of items that are ideal for being held on the nightstand –
Put them on the floor, it’s going to look messy and you won’t be impressing anyone.
Now we’re talking. There are a lot of people who are comfortable with having only one nightstand, especially if their bed is positioned against a wall.
If you’re relaxed about the balance of the room being slightly skewed towards the nightstand then that’s awesome. You can always place something (e.g. a guitar) on the other side of the bed to create an equal visual weighting. You could replace the second nightstand with a plant, for example.
Here’s the issue though.
You’ve just finished the new interior and the place is looking so great that someone needs to take pictures of it. You go out into town feeling awesome and meet someone of the opposite sex, who you then bring back. It’s time to show the place off finally.
You have some company for the night but can you expect her to charge her phone on the plant? No you can’t.
She’s at a loss so she keeps the phone in the bed but whilst she’s asleep it falls onto your wooden floor and smashes the screen. You thought she was the one and now she hates you.
This is what most people have in their homes. There’s been a natural selection process and the fittest is the two nightstand option.
If you have a lot of belongings then there’s never enough space to store them away. On top of that, having two nightstands means you have symmetry and your brain will be chilled.
There’s nothing stopping you from buying two different styles of nightstand. I won’t go into how you decide which nightstands of differing styles match but I’ll link to it once I get round to writing it.
Two nightstands is important if your bed is positioned in the center of the wall, again this is for balance.
Hopefully, by now you know how many nightstands you’re planning on adding to your bedroom.
The next step is deciding which to include.
We’ve researched and collected some of the best affordable nightstands around.

I’d never choose no nightstands. It’s a personal preference but for the style of bedroom I love, there needs to be at least one nightstand available.
My bed is usually in the middle of the room and I’m a fan of symmetry as much as possible, so I include two nightstands any time I refurnish my bedroom. If you have company over then it’s good to make them feel at ease and nightstands are great for storing phones and water through the evening.
Anyone who’s in doubt, I would opt for two nightstands of the same design but encourage those who feel like buying alternative styles to go and experiment.
If it works you’re going to impress everyone who sees them and they’ll be asking you how you managed to change the face of interior design forever.
