  • Sisal

We’ve done you a favor and gathered awesome inspirational images of decor with natural fiber rugs as their centerpiece.

What is Jute From?

Jute fibers come from Corchorus capsularis aka the white jute plant.

They’re comprised of white bark, including cellulose, lignin and other trace materials, making jute a durable and absorbent rug material.

During production, the fibers are long at around 1m-4m in length, golden and soft.

Alongside rugs, jute is also woven and blended to create textiles for curtains, covers for chairs and carpets.

Is Jute Stronger Than Cotton?

A common question often asked is if jute is stronger than cotton.

Cotton is the standard that everyone measures against.

Buy, yes, jute is stronger than cotton.

Interestingly though, just comes in second only to cotton as the world’s most important vegetal crop for its numerous uses.

Are Jute Rugs Good for Living Rooms?

The great thing about jute rugs is their durability.

Stamp on them, bash them, scrap them with your feet – do whatever you like!

Jute rugs are going to be able to handle it.

If you’re someone that loves to host and have all of your friends over then these are perfect.

Or, if you’re a parent, buying a jute rug, or any form of natural fiber rug, will at least mean you have one thing in your home that’s indestructible.

Which Natural Fiber Rugs are Soft?

Worried natural fiber rugs will be too coarse underfoot?

You shouldn’t be.

Jute fibers are naturally soft, in fact, jute’s one of the softest of all natural fiber rug materials.

However, if you want even softer jute, look out for rugs that have chenille woven in with the fibers too.

What is Sisal Material?

Sisal is made from a plant, the Agave, native to Southern Mexico.

Its fibers are stiff and are, importantly, distinct from jute.

What would you say if we told you sisal is even more durable, rope and twine are made from it.

Do you need a rug for high-traffic areas of your home?

Sisal is the material that’ll withstand a herd of 30 rampaging African Elephants so we’re confident it’ll hold up to Uncle Jerry.

What is the Difference Between Sisal and Jute Rugs?

Sisal is actually coarser than jute.

You might find that it’s too coarse to comfortably walk on with bare feet unless you have spent years developing tough feet.

Jute, however, is more like a your typical fabric and you shouldn’t have any worries about walking on it.
