Q&A With Ieva From Magic Linen

From the sustainability of linen, through your manufacturing processes (which are certified) and including your use of environmentally friendly packaging, you have been consistent with your environmental message.

Is that what you set out to do from the start and how difficult has it been to maintain?

From the very start, at MagicLinen we are committed to reducing the environmental footprint in all areas of our business.

Manufacturing of textiles can be a complicated process, involving various treatments and chemicals which can be harmful to people and the planet. Ensuring that we do no harm to either is at the top of our list, this is why we chose to be completely transparent and invested in third-party testing.

All of our products are Oeko-Tex certified meaning they are absolutely absent from harmful substances and chemicals.

Another big step towards a more ethical business was to introduce our new environmentally-friendly packaging which can be composted.

It is not difficult to maintain this approach when you have a clear vision and values for your business.

MagicLinen will be constantly introducing new environmentally friendly products and decisions.  

Do you think your sustainability message is the main reason your home textiles customers are attracted to you or is there something advantageous about wearing linen?

Our sustainability message is not the only and main reason why our customers choose us.

At MagicLinen we believe that home linen should be both functional and beautiful, thus we are meticulous about details and colors.

The personal touch that goes into creating every piece allows us to offer a wide range of color and unique designs.

Also, we pride ourselves on flexible customization options offered to our customers to bring their visions to life with our rich color palette and unique design details.

There is a striking simplicity about the colours and patterns used across your ranges.

How do you manage to produce these?

All our colors and design details are inspired by what surrounds us, from the beauty of nature to simple objects found while traveling.

For example, our Olive Green is reminiscent of the forest’s natural mossy carpet, while our Rust Pink hue was inspired by the vivid terrain and ochre architecture in the South of France. 

What do you feel it is about linen as a textile that makes it so practical to use in both domestic and commercial settings?

Linen has many magical properties. Here are the main reasons behind its popularity:

• To begin with, linen is known to be the strongest natural fiber in the world. It is 30% thicker and stronger than cotton, which makes it super durable and contributes the linen items’ longevity. The natural durability of the material makes linen a smart investment and is the reason why most of us have some sort of linen heirlooms passed down in the family for generations.
• Linen is famous for its antibacterial properties. Because it wicks moisture and dries out much faster than cotton, it doesn’t let bacteria build up. By using linen bedding, linen bath towels, and kitchen items, you can wave goodbye to pesky dust mites and other germs. People who suffer from allergies report feeling relieved when using linen in their surroundings. 
• The flax fiber, from which linen is made, is hollow and absorbs moisture well — to be precise, it can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in water before starting to feel damp. This is an important characteristic for towels, bath linens, bedding, and clothing as well.
• Linen is also a natural insulator meaning it keeps you cool in the summer and retains heat from your body in the colder months.

You create custom products for customers that require them, is this customization of your existing ranges or are you able to create something new?

We make customizations of our existing ranges.

Our customers are from all over the world and each country has different bedding sizes and standards.

We can make custom size bedding items, tablecloths, curtains and so on. 

You have many thousands of excellent reviews on Etsy, has its marketplace been helpful for you to sell across the world from Lithuania?

Yes, this marketplace has been extremely successful and helped us to grow our brand.
