Home Tour: A Gorgeous Rustic Cottage Interior Design That’ll Give You Tons Of Ideas

Are you searching for ideas to make your home the coziest it could be?

You’re in luck.

This Home Tour comes from Mickie of @cottageonmainst who has been kind enough to describe the challenges and highlights of decorating as well as provide tips on how to achieve you own style.

Q&A With Mickie

In this interview, we wanted to get some tips for how you can create your own shabby chic decor.

There’s a fine balance between going too rustic and all of your furniture falling apart and going too chic, losing the personality you’ve longed for.

Mickie has mastered this balance.

Love the shabby chic aesthetic you’ve created, how would you describe your style?

My style is definitely Cottage Farmhouse.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced during your rustic decorating journey?

My biggest challenge is SPACE. Our cottage is only 850 sf so I would say making all the furniture pieces fit in without feeling crowded.

I use large furniture pieces with lots of cabinets and drawers for storage.

That’s a must in a tiny cottage.

You have a lot of antique furniture, do you have a store that you know you won’t leave without buying something from?

Yes definitely!

I actually have a few favorite antique shops that I like to stop in and I rarely leave empty handed lol!

Of all the rooms in your cottage, which is your favorite and why?

That’s a tough one, I love them all but I think my living room because it’s comfy & cozy and just relaxing.

It’s where you lay back on the sofa with your feet up and watch a good show and just unwind.

What advice do you have for people who haven’t yet found their style?

I would say always stay true to the architecture of your home.

If your home is modern then stick with modern decor, if it’s a cottage or farmhouse then choose that type of decor style such as vintage mirrors, architectural salvage, farmhouse sinks and lots of vintage chippy pieces.

Rooms Solutions want to say thank you to Mickie for answering these questions, we think you’ll agree they’re very helpful.
