Loving the color explosion! Is this the first home you’ve had a home with such an eclectic style decor?

Thank you!

Yes, this is definitely the first home I’ve really gone to town on.

I began injecting color when I first moved to this house but my then partner liked simple design so I was very tame with my decor compared to now.

The magic really began over two years ago when the girls’ Dad moved out and it was suddenly just my two girls and me.

In came all the pink alongside the rest.

Even now I have so many more ideas and color combinations but I could do with a second and third house to be able to implement them all.

It must be hard to find furnishings exactly as you want, do you make all of your own?

I have always hated going into a shop and buying something that breaks the bank and that isn’t unique to my personality.

If I do buy something new, I like it to have its own eccentricities.

My green sofa is an example of this as I knew there wouldn’t be many people that would go for the green.

I’m also a massive fan of paint and if I can get paint to adhere to a surface, on goes the paint – I once painted a slow cooker before all those specific appliance paints came about.

Some sort of specific thermal paint.

Everyone thought I was mad but now everyone is doing it.

I create my own artwork for the walls, I make my own wall murals, I’m constantly up-cycling and re-upcycling furniture.

Very lucky to have free stuff sent to me often, and a lot of what people send usually has the same vibe as my home.

Which pieces of furniture have you found to be the hardest to combine in your style?

It’s rare I can’t make something work in my home because like I said, I will happily paint anything.

It’s probably more electrical appliances that I struggle with.

I have a really good but super bulky stereo and I hated how it looked.

It was black and not to my taste at all.

So I spray painted it! It still works perfectly and now fits fantastically into my decor.

I’m still trying to figure out how to disguise the tv as that’s definitely my biggest bug bear.

I’m not a fan of dark colors or chunks of black in my own home so I’d love for someone to invent a TV with a pink surround and a multi-colored screen.

Which is your favorite room in your house and why?

Ohh that’s a tough one!

Although they all contain color, they each have slightly different color palettes.

I love the calm and simplicity of my bedroom.

But I love the chaos of my living room and my kitchen.

Having to choose, it would be my living room as it’s a pretty good size so it contains lots of beautiful things and multiple color combinations.

I don’t think there’s a color I haven’t used in there.

What advice do you have from others who are still trying to find their own style?

If I could chat to my eighteen year old self – who had just moved out and was so eager to fit in and people alike – I would say…

Take your time.

There’s no rush to decide what your style is, even I struggle to know how to label mine today and if you’re anything like me, it will only continue to evolve.

I think design should evoke exciting feelings inside your body.

I’m often out and about and I’ll drive past some graffiti on a wall, or see a combination of colors on a TV advert, or the way a restaurant has displayed their artwork, and if it makes me stop to take a picture or excitedly tell the person I’m with to LOOK, I know it makes my heart sing.

Our interiors should reflect our own personalities, our homes are an extension of ourselves and we need to feel at ease, happy and inspired when we’re in them.

Stay true to who you are and what you love and try not to worry about how you ‘should’ be decorating or what other people think.

With regards to starting out, look on Pinterest and Instagram for ideas, start small, picking out your favorite color, or just a color that makes you feel happy, and use it in soft furnishings and artwork to start with.

When  adding more colors, lay them out in front of you so you know they work well together, and just build up from there.

And don’t hold back!

It’s your home.
